Saugatuck Township Planning Commission Hosts Presentation and Public Input Session on Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance Update
The Saugatuck Township Planning Commission is pleased to announce a Presentation and Public Input Session on the Comprehensive Update to the Zoning Ordinance. The session will take place on Tuesday, November 21st, 2023, at 5 pm at the Township Hall, located at 3461 Blue Star Highway, Saugatuck, MI.
This event offers an opportunity for the community to learn about the recommended updates to the Township Zoning Ordinance and provide valuable feedback. The presentation will be led by David Jirousek, principal at Horizon Community Planning, the consulting firm overseeing the zoning ordinance update.

The Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance Update has been a collaborative effort involving community stakeholders, advisory committees, and the Planning Commission. In 2021, the Township formed three advisory committees to review specific areas of the zoning ordinance against the master plan. These committees comprised community members with diverse perspectives, ensuring an inclusive examination of the existing ordinance.
The advisory committees diligently submitted recommendations to the Planning Commission, focusing on aligning the Zoning Ordinance with the Master Plans. Key areas of emphasis include promoting attainable housing, supporting economic development, and enhancing environmental stewardship.
From these recommendations, the Planning Commission contracted with Horizon Community Planning, a reputable firm providing community planning and zoning consultation services across Michigan. Horizon Community Planning has been tasked with developing legally defensible ordinances that reflect the Township’s vision for sustainable growth and development.
David Ihle, Planning Commission Chair, said: “We are excited to share the progress made in updating the Zoning Ordinance with the Saugatuck Township community. This session is a crucial step in ensuring that the updated ordinances accurately reflect the Township’s values and priorities.
