Saugatuck Township’s Land Conservation and Public Access Program is dedicated to protecting the Township’s unique natural landscapes, critical ecosystems, and valuable agricultural lands.
Key Focus Areas
- Natural Preservation: Protects dunes, Lake Michigan bluffs, wetlands, forests, and tributaries to support biodiversity and environmental resilience.
- Farmland Protection: Preserves agricultural lands essential for local food production, rural traditions, and open landscapes.
- Public Access: Prioritizes conservation of ecologically sensitive areas and properties that enhance public access, especially near Lake Michigan and the Kalamazoo River.
Funding and Impact
Funded by the Parks and Trails Millage approved in 2022, this program ensures Saugatuck’s natural beauty and agricultural heritage are preserved for future generations.
