Saugatuck Township’s road system is maintained through a partnership with the Allegan County Road Commission (ACRC) and the Township itself. Roads are classified into primary, local, and private, with maintenance responsibilities divided accordingly.
Road Jurisdiction & Responsibilities
- Major (Primary) Roads: Maintained and improved by the Allegan County Road Commission.
- Local (Minor) Roads: Improved and maintained by the Township using funds from two voter-approved road millages.
- Private Roads: Maintained by property owners or homeowner associations.
Saugatuck Township is located in Area 1 of ACRC’s jurisdiction and includes:
Local Roads: 32.99 miles
- Total Road Mileage: 54.11 miles
- Primary Roads: 21.02 miles
Maintenance & Services Provided by ACRC
The Allegan County Road Commission is responsible for:
- Engineering, design, and contracting of road improvements
- Snow removal
- Grading of gravel roads
- General road repair and maintenance
- Road sign placement and upkeep
Saugatuck Township Road Plan
