Under MCL 211.51, certain qualifying taxpayers may defer their Winter property tax payments until April of the following year.
Applications for tax deferment are available at Township Hall and must be submitted to the Township Treasurer’s Office.

Real Property Tax Forfeiture & Foreclosure
In Michigan, real property tax delinquency follows a three-year forfeiture and foreclosure process.
- Year 2: If property taxes remain unpaid for two years, the parcel is forfeited to the County Treasurer.
- Year 3: If taxes are still unpaid by March 31 of the third year, the property is foreclosed by the Foreclosing Governmental Unit (FGU).
The FGU is responsible for inspecting forfeited properties, notifying property owners, and managing the property’s disposition.
