Lead Service Line Verification
In 2018, the State of Michigan adopted the Lead and Copper Rule, which requires public water systems to develop an inventory of water services in our system and what materials they are made of. This information will be used to determine if any are made of lead or were previously connected to lead. All lead lines in the Township must be removed by 2041.
Saugatuck Township is also required to complete a 20% audit of water lines of unknown material and verify of all suspected lead lines.
If you are contacted for an inspection, your water service will need to be checked in three places.
- Inside your home where the pipe enters your home.
- Underground on your private property
- Underground within the right of way or easement
If your water service line is verified as lead or previously connected to lead, you will be notified within 30 days and given information on how to reduce potential lead exposure until the time of your service replacement.
Saugatuck Township is committed to meeting community needs to enhance the quality of life for all. We need your help and cooperation to ensure all residents are accessing healthy, clean water.
